It is quite easy to see why we need home security; it is to ensure the safety of our loved ones and our belongings. However, keeping yourself protected when you go online is extra harder than you think, according to Richard Bishara. Most of us will go online multiple times every day, you may not be aware of it, but you are sharing a great deal of information about yourself. You will give your email address, share personal information, bank account, your current locations, and even your rant about your boss. It will make you more vulnerable to cyber-attacks. Therefore, you need to seriously think about cybersecurity.
What is Cybersecurity?
In a simpler term, cybersecurity means protecting your tablets, mobile devices, laptops, desktops, or other devices that you are using to access the internet from possible intruders. You may also protect your information from being used and/or sold by different companies. There are multiple ways in how you can remain safe while in the online realm. From using password managers, VPN, to identifying services that monitor your actions, you can protect yourself from hacking and phishing.
What is Hacking?
Richard Bishara defined hacking as a practice of using your knowledge to penetrate the system and exploit its vulnerabilities. There are various practices that a hacker can do; they can impede your access to a network, collect data illegally, and gain access to any devices using a similar network. There are different types of hackers; white-hat, black-hat, and gray-hat hackers. White-Hat hackers are those employed by companies to identify the vulnerability in their company’s system. With this, they can protect themselves, before the black-hat hackers even find out about that gap in their system. The Black-Hat hackers are individuals who will illegally invade your system to steal your personal information and steal money from you. Gray-Hat hackers are people who will not have malicious intent but will also not be keen on following rules.
How To Protect Yourself from Hacking
To start, you should avoid practices that will expose you to these hackers. Richard Bishara warns people on the dangers related to phone jailbreaking. People are jailbreaking their phones to be free from the restrictions of their manufacturers. It means that they will be able to use apps that are not from Apple. However, it also means that you could install an app made by a hacker. You should also keep your system updated. While updates can be annoying sometimes, it is necessary to ensure that your cybersecurity is up to date.
When you access your email, you have the option to enable two-factor authentication to boost your cybersecurity. Richard Bishara believes that it will be more difficult for others to access your email. It would be great to think of a stronger passcode. We know that mixing signs and numbers can be difficult to remember. Think of it this way, when you plan to use a name like Patricia as your password, why not use P@TR1C14 instead? There should also be an erase date function in your system. Be sure to keep that always on. This will ensure that you are protected even if you lost your phone.
